ELDER HYRUM RICHARDSON #73
OCTOBER 13, 2014
This week was great!
On Tuesday, the Assistants called us and told us to come to the mission office to pick up our new companion! So now we are in a tri-panionship again! Elder Chen is just a temporary missionary from Taoyuan. He is getting ready to go on a mission to Arcadia California in December, so the mission president sent him here for a few weeks to practice his English! Elder Chen didn't learn English in school, so he started learning the 26 letters 3 weeks ago! We are working hard with him to get him teaching and learning English well before he goes to the MTC. He's doing great so far! Most of the English that he knows comes from movies, so he can say stuff like "Don't move" or "I'm Spiderman." We are trying to teach him that he can say "Inconceivable" in any situation.
We had a miracle on Wednesday. We ran into one of our recent converts on the street! I hadn't met her since coming to the English ward, and her phone had not been working! But it was great that we met her on the street and got to invite her back to church.
Elder Chen has been teaching us some Taiwanese. It's great because both Elder Wilson and I have been wanting to learn Taiwanese, so now we have a companion who can teach us! Taiwanese is not super useful, but it's really fun to learn and fun to speak!
On Thursday, it was my birthday! We had a training all day, and I spent the day doing translation for the meeting. But then we went to Subway for dinner which was great!
General Conference was wonderful! I took a lot of notes and I'll be printing out some of the talks to study because I'm too impatient to wait for the conference issue! I learned a lot from the conference. I especially liked Elder Christofferson's talk, Elder Utchdorf's two talks and President Monson's talk in Sunday morning!
Recently, we have started going to the bookshelf with all of the Book of Mormon languages and randomly picking one to take contacting with us. Yesterday we had a German copy and were able to hand it out to someone we contacted on the street!
Yesterday, we also met with Anand. He is a Christian from India and he is really enthusiastic about doing missionary work. We shared with him about Joseph Smith, and I could tell that he really felt the Spirit and knew it was true! We are really excited to meet with him again!
That's about all for this week!
Add oil!
