SISTER MELISSA RICHARDSON
OCTOBER 14, 2014
It's too bad that there's not a key indicator for investigators
getting married! That was definitely the highlight of the week. Plus
we got to go on the beach which was amazing too. It was incredible to
be there for it and remember when Crystal and Rob showed up to church
back in July and how they were then and then how much they've changed
to now. The gospel and the Spirit change people! I probably say that
every week, but it's true and is so cool to witness. Bishop Giles
performed the wedding. It was a 5 minute ceremony and then was over!
Because Rob's last name is white, Crystal wanted a "white" wedding and
so everyone was required to wear all white. I loved it because in
another year, they will have another white wedding at the temple! I'll
attach some pictures at the end of the email.
We were driving to do some finding time in a neighborhood after a
dinner minute when I felt a strong impression to go and see this less
active family. I tried to brush it past because I wasn't sure if it
was a prompting. But then it came back and my heart was burning. And
so I made Sister Hall turn the car around and we went back to visit
them. We went in and visited and the mom ended up opening up to us
about how she was still having a really hard time with losing her son
2 years ago. A woman that before intimidated me and wouldn't look us
in the eye, was now opening her heart and crying to us. It was a near
experience. We are hoping that teaching her the gospel will help her
heal and find peace again. We went and helped her with laundry for a
little while the next day. We had a huge basket of socks and spent an
hour trying to find matches. It was really fun actually.

I had a trade off with Sister Stockett, one of the sister training
leaders this week. I don't think I stopped laughing that whole 24
hours. I haven't laughed myself to tears in so long, but it happened
twice on this trade off. She is just so funny and has an infectious
laugh and we had the funniest experiences together.
We had a lesson with another less active that is now a Jehovah's
Witness. That was interesting. She was throwing a bunch of anti
information at us about Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. The
spirit was not there. It's hard to keep your cool and not give in to
the temptation to bible bash when you can't feel the spirit. It's my
right hand man and I am just another person without it. It's hard to
teach people that don't have that open heart and real intent that
Moroni tells us we need.
Montee passed her baptism interview! Because of some schedule
conflicts her baptism will actually be this Sunday the 19th. So
exciting!!
We had dinner with a man in the Ward whose family is visiting from
Sweden! They seem to be a big solid and foundational family for the
church in Sweden. I got really intimidated when they told us the dad
there had been a temple president in Sweden! They told us lots of
funny stories about meeting the king and queen of Sweden and of
meeting general authorities. They had brought cake all the way from
Sweden that we ate!
For service this week, we helped the Horton's "muck the stalls" which
means scooping out the poop. We also helped this other lady at her
horse farm, but she had us shoveling mulch for 2 hours. Sister Hall
and I enjoyed it but were both pretty sore the few days afterwards.
In this ward, the Bishop has the missionaries come to every Ward
council meeting. I have learned so much from observing and working
with these Ward leaders. They have taught me a lot about working with
people and the way the church is organized and functions.
Sister Hall got several new investigators this week and are excited to
go to teach them again this week! We are trying to teach more lessons
in members homes as the stake and mission has directed us to do.
