I decided to serve a "service mission" while living at home in Arkansas. I worked with my stake president, President Alan Gauldin, and received a mission call to serve in the Springdale Arkansas Stake as the first full-time service missionary under the new service missionary program started by the church. Nobody knew what to do or what I was supposed to do. We were all pioneers in figuring working together to figure this thing out! President Gauldin is my mission president and I will also work with a missionary couple who will be service missionary coordinators. One couple was called to work with me for a little while and then Brother Bob and Sister Lois Nothum were called to work with me and other service missionaries in Arkansas and Missouri. At the beginning, I was the only sister service missionary to work with them. Brother and Sister Nothum came to our house to meet us and talked to us about how this might work -- but we are all figuring it out together.
We also talked with the Bentonville, AR mission president, President Jeff Strong, to see if I could work with the sister missionaries on some days. This was a learning process.
Before I was set apart at a service missionary, I was able to go with the sister missionaries to Zone Conference that was held at our Springdale Arkansas Stake Center. It was my first experience as a missionary. It was really awesome and a little bit overwhelming. I learned a lot spiritually. I was spiritually full! Sister Faleafa and Sister Tafuna were awesome sisters for me to work with. They were both new to our ward and they included me in on their service projects and some of their companion study times. I learned so much from them. We all got along really well.
