ELDER HYRUM RICHARDSON LETTER #57 -- JUNE 23, 2014

LETTER #57:  ELDER HYRUM RICHARDSON
JUNE 23, 2014

Every time I sit down to write this letter, I think about how much I've done since just last Monday. It always seems like I've done a TON of stuff. But I can only include "a hundredth part" (Jacob 3:13) in the letter! Luckily the rest is in my journal or in my memory to remember.

Last week for P-Day, Wu Mama took us to the mountain that is just north of Taibei where we saw some cool volcanic stuff and played some frisbee. Unfortunately, there wasn't a lot of time, and I also forgot to take my camera..sorry.

We had our English class party on Wednesday! Unfortunately, I was in charge of the party, and I'm not a super great party planner. Luckily it turned out alright. Each class had 45 minutes to prepare a skit of some common fairy tales, and then performed them in front of the other classes. The students really got into it, (especially the advanced class) and it was pretty hilarious.

This week I opened the extra unopened shirt that I had in my suitcase. My shirts are still pretty white, but this new shirt blows them all away as far as whiteness is concerned.

We were really happy and really sad to finally hear from our investigator Brother Hou on Thursday. We were just really happy to hear from him again, but sad to hear that he had had a stroke on Saturday and was still in the hospital. We got permission to leave our area and see him on Thursday, and it seems like he's going to recover pretty well. We just worry about him because he doesn't have any family to visit him. We sent our ward mission leader and elder's quorum president to see him yesterday, and hope that we can go again this week to see him. Keep him in your prayers.

Thursday was Elder Farrell's last day of missionary work. He was really sad for it to be over. But he's back in the States now, which is weird to think about.

On Friday I got my new companion! His name is Elder Darger, and he's pretty awesome. He is a great musician and had a band and a couple of CDs before he came on a mission. He converted in college because one of his friends recommended him while in Salt Lake City on temple square. (Member referrals are the best!) He was just in Taidong, and when I went to Zhonghe, he had just left. Also Elder Farrell was his trainer.

It's weird. In our district, Elder Pearce and I are the oldest missionaries (as far as missionary age). Weird to think about!

We will probably have a baptism next week. His name is Roy and he has been an investigator for a long time, but couldn't get baptized before because his family doesn't agree with him getting baptized. Anyway, we'll find out this week if his parents will sign the form and if so, he will get baptized on Sunday!

That's it for this week.

Add oil!

Elder Richardson
