JULY 8, 2014: SISTER MELISSA RICHARDSON
Some great miracles happened this week! Right after a great district meeting, we went and taught Passion, the 13yr old girl that's being adopted by a member family. And she committed to be baptized and we set a date with her! In past lessons, she didn't agree with most of the things we taught and seemed to be really confused. But in this lesson, she seemed to understand everything and readily accepted it. I have loved seeing her change these last few weeks as her heart has been softened as she's felt the love of her new adoptive family and the love of the ward. I've loved seeing the Long family turn into a family...it's been so neat.
We taught 21 lessons this week! That is all of our member presents, other lessons, and less active/recent convert lessons! It didn't even seem like that much throughout the week, but by the end of the week it added up to a lot. It is definitely God working miracles. We made contact with several less actives that we hadn't talked with much before, so that was good!
We had a tracting miracle. The last door we knocked on, we offered to say a prayer with the woman that opened the door. She let us right in and we just started talking to her. She's from Estonia and has a cute 3 year old. She doesn't have a strong religious background. Then she started crying and told us that she recently lost a baby and that she was really struggling. Wow. It was one of those in the right place at the right time moments. We read from the Book of Mormon about the Atonement and talked to her a bit about the plan of salvation. She said she hoped it was true. We prayed with her and invited her to come to church and read the Book of Mormon. She said she would read! She is just so humble and willing. Her heart is so open right now through this trial she's going through. And then we found out that she is friends with a member family in the ward! We are excited to go back and see her again.
We also had some Talk to Everyone miracles. We would try and go visit potential investigators and then they wouldn't be home. So we'd just talk to the people that were outside around where we were and we were able to find more people interested in the gospel! Woohoo!
The Lunas came to church again!!! That was a huge miracle. On Saturday evening, we went and got all muddy helping them with yard work and then they fed us dinner. Sister Luna said that now they have no excuse not to come to church :) The hardest part for them is just getting there. Then as soon as they do, they feel the love and are so glad they came. Now we just need to work on getting them there in time for the sacrament :)
We were also able to teach Sister Luna's brother on facebook who lives in Honduras...pretty cool! Hopefully we'll continue to teach him.
There were some awesome firework shows this weekend that we watched right from our driveway. It was fun!
Also, my year mark is this Thursday, the 10th!
