JUNE 24, 2014: SISTER MELISSA RICHARDSON
Well it has been an interesting week!
Monday night was great! We set a baptism date with Jose Luna for July 24th!
Then Tuesday morning, Sister Gillman woke up sick. We ended up going to the doctor on Wednesday and she had strep throat. So Tuesday-Friday we stayed in all day. Poor Sister Gillman was so sick and exhausted. I spent the time trying to find things to do to keep myself occupied while also obeying mission rules. I read lots of the Book of Mormon, Jesus the Christ, watched every church DVD I could find in the house (including the Testaments in Asl, then again in French). I watched the Emma Smith movie several times. Took plenty of naps. Kept Sister Gillman on her medicine schedule and washed her sheets everyday and made her oatmeal. The ward was so great and always brought us things we needed like Kleenex or Gatorade or medicine because I couldn't run to the store and grab it, because I couldn't leave her. They also brought us lots of smoothies from Tropical Smoothie Café :) For the first time in a year I realized (since I've been on my mission), I was bored! I did get some cabin fever after a few days of "isolation", but we got through it and Sister Gillman is feeling better!
On Saturday night, we had a movie night with the ward where we watched the Joseph Smith: Prophet of the Restoration movie. It was great and we had a lot of people there including several part member families. Very strong spirit there.
We were blessed with miracles on Sunday, even with us being in sick all week. We had several less actives and part member families come to church. Hooray!
On Monday, Sister Gillman was still feeling really exhausted all the time, so a nurse in the ward suggested we go in and get her checked for mono. So she got her blood drawn this morning, and we are still waiting for results on that.
Buuut...the unexpected news is that Sister Gillman is being transferred! We both weren't expecting it at all! And were in shock when it was announced. She is being transferred to Fort Caroline which is in the east Jacksonville area. My new companion is Sister Merchant. All that I know about her so far is that she's been on her mission 6 months, has bright red hair, is from Arizona, and is a really good singer. Should be a fun adventure!
Sorry there's not much to report from the week, but that's because we weren't able to do much. But it'll be a fun next week!
