LETTER #58: ELDER HYRUM RICHARDSON
JUNE 30, 2014
This week was a little rough. I got kinda sick for part of it. It didn't keep us inside, but it did make going outside a little bit harder. But we saw many miracles this week.
Last Monday, for P-Day, we went back to Neihu and ate a giant ice with the missionaries and a recent convert there! It was super weird to go and walk around my old area, especially because it's been such a long time since I was there. It was fun to hang out with a few old friends.
The giant ice that we ate and the group who was there. I think it might be a little blurry. Sorry, I'm terrible at cameras |
Monday night, we called a recent convert/less active member that moved into our ward. She doesn't answer her phone very much, but on Monday she did! And then we got her to come with us to an FHE where she started meeting some of the members! Hopefully, she can keep getting to know members and feel more comfortable about coming to church.
On Thursday we met with our awesome investigator Brother Wang. He is SO excited to get baptized! Member referrals really are the best! His baptism date will be on July 19th, and our plan now is to help him get to know more members so that he will have some friends and will keep coming to church! He's awesome! This week he said that my companion looks like Michael J. Fox. I agreed.
Friday we ran into a guy who was carrying around a soprano sax. He didn't have any interest in the church, but it was cool to see a soprano sax again.
So I found out this week that next week I will be going down to the East Coast again! This is just like what happened last November, where they send extra missionaries to just do finding for a week. It should be really tiring, but hopefully will be fun as well!
Our investigator Brother Hou is still in the hospital. We're trying to find out when he will leave so that we can help him out, but it sounds like it isn't very certain yet.
Yesterday, we had a baptism! His name is Roy, and he's been an investigator for about 2 and a half years. He finally got his parent's permission to get baptized (he's 19, you have to be 20 here), and so we met with him a few times to review some of the lessons, and then he got baptized yesterday! I'll send the picture.
Last night, we went for the first time to visit a family. Elder Farrell and I contacted him on the street a few months ago, and then we called him up and he let us come to his house. He's got a really cute 4 year old kid, and mostly for the first visit we just got to know them. But at the end we talked a little about the Book of Mormon and testified of the truthfulness, and then they asked us to go back on Tuesday! He said, "Is that too fast?" and we said "Nope." I will be on the East Coast tomorrow, but Elder Darger and Elder Pearce will go visit them. I'll let you know how it went!
That's all for this week.
Add oil!
Elder Richardson
This is the thing that Brother Wang printed out for us. My companion is Michael J. Fox on the left, and I apparently look like the guy on the right, but neither of us know who it is. Anyone know?
