ELDER JOSEPH RICHARDSON - December 2, 2015 - Week 14: Turkey with Crazy Sauce

Hello everyone!

Due to transfers this week, P-Day is Tuesday this week. So hi from a
day later than usual! :P Also, for those waiting for my transfer news,
I'm staying in the same area for at least another 6 weeks.

This week has been kind of a wild ride. We've had so much going on!

Last Tuesday, we had another lesson with Sean. I think I may have
mentioned before, but we've been teaching him so long that we have run
out of content, so we are just reading and discussing the Book of
Mormon with him. His reading has been pretty sporadic, so I decided to
just read Alma 32 with him. It was really cool how much he got out of
it. The allegory of the seed of faith was really good for him, and
Brother James was able to relate it to his situation really
effectively. I think Sean is finally progressing well!

Wednesday was one of our usual service days. We helped the soup
kitchen place serve their thanksgiving lunch to the needy, then went
to help Bro. Shelstad with his house again. This time, he and Elder B
crawled under the house and cut out a lot of old electrical work so he
could redo it later. I just held the flashlight so they could see.

On Thursday, Elder B had organised a Turkey Bowl, so we went out to
the local park and played football. It was really funny because the
field had frosted over overnight, so everyone was slipping and sliding
everywhere.

We had thanksgiving dinner with the Nelsons and their extended family,
as well as a nonmember named Gina who the Nelsons are working with. It
was super good food and we got to watch some crazy shenanigans. One of
the Nelson's sons, Ben, and their son in law started practicing their
wrestling moves in the living room. You see, the son in law is a
professional cage fighter, and Ben is learning, so they just started
showing each other moves.

After that, we went to the Reynolds for pie. I had a good chat with
their son Lucas who is big into video games. We chatted for over an
hour about the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, which he's playing
right now. It was really fun to talk about one of my passions, because
I don't often get to talk about video games out here. I think it was
also good for Lucas to see that we, as missionaries, are still normal
people, with normal interests.

On Friday, we went over to Geraldine's house. She's a non member that
we serve on occasion. We helped her pull all the tumble weeds out of
her garden, and bagged them up to get thrown out. After that, we had
lunch with her and her adult son.

Little did I know, she'd set us up. Turns out, her son is a born again
Christian preacher, and he came prepared to try to convert us.
Unfortunately, I fell for the bait and bible bashed with him. We left
on good terms, but I felt bad because we're not supposed to do that.

Afterwards, Elder B and I had a good talk about why we don't debate
people. Some people, like that man, aren't open to the truths we have,
and trying to force it down their throat never helps. He's set in his
ways, we are in ours, so nothing but contention can arise. I ended up
using that experience to lead a good discussion in our district
meeting a few hours later.

Saturday morning, we were out early to help Brandon Jennings with his
Eagle project. We went and repainted the parking lot of a local
elementary school. After that, we returned to sister Espina's home to
do some clean up from our last service there. They fed us lunch, and I
got to try crab for the first time. It was pretty hard to eat!
Unfortunately, we had our dinner appointment a few hours later, and I
felt really sick. So, we went home early that night and I got to sleep
a few extra hours. I'm feeling much better now.

Sunday morning, I remembered that to finish off my training, I had to
rewatch the District again. I spent the morning watching two of the
three episodes, then got up and dressed. It ended up being a pretty
good day.

Yesterday was a good day. That morning, we got the "Transfer Text", a
list of who was leaving our zone this transfer. Surprisingly, I'm
actually staying and Elder B is getting moved out. Elder B was a
little distraught, as he's been here for over 7 months, but he took it
well.

Later on, we went and helped Bernie put up her Christmas lights. Elder
B and I put together a pretty good network of lights. Bernie was super
happy with how it turned out.

That night, we had a family home evening and dinner with the Behrends
and the English family. We sang a bunch of different songs, including
some Christmas carols. It was a really good evening, especially for
Brother Behrends, who's less active.

All in all, a pretty big week! I hope everyone is doing well!

Keep hauling that water,
Elder Joseph Richardson
