This week has been super long for some reason.... It's kinda weird.
Anyway, Monday night we got snowed in at Elder Dill and Ingham's
apartment. We hung out with them all of PDay, but when it was time to
go home, our car was stuck because of the icy parking lot. So we
stayed in and played a board game called Quelf. It reminded me of
Cranium, but was super crazy and weird.
The next day, we went with the other Elders to do service on a
member's "ranch" out in Chino Valley. Elder Dill and I built a bunch
of kennels with pieces of chainlink fence, while Elder Hedrick and
Ingham weeded part of their property.
Tuesday night was kind of hilarious, we had a member who wanted to
take us to Olive Garden, Sister Roth. However, she got caught up with
stuff at home, so she just told us to go eat and she'd call and pay. I
got the Tour of Italy plate, which was super good. While we ate,
apparently the people across from us paid for our meal! We had an
awkward phone call later as we explained to Sister Roth that she
didn't need to pay for dinner! :P
On Wednesday, we had our Mission Christmas Conference down in Mesa. We
did an endowment session, toured the Visitor's center and saw the Mesa
Lights! It was pretty cool! The Visitor's center had some really cool
new exhibits, including one about missionaries and why we do what we
do.
Thursday morning, we went and helped Sister Espina again. She needed
us to put up some plastic sheeting to insulate her shed. Luckily,
Elder Hedrick is very handy with a hammer, so it went quick. She then
fed us KFC, which was yummy.
On Friday, we had a district meeting where we put together a new
initiative to present to the stake. Elder Wells of the first quorum of
the Seventy made members a promise that if they pray for people
specifically morning and night for 21 days, one of them will be
prepared to hear the gospel.
Y'all should do it too! We're going to start the stake doing it on January 1st.
That night, Elder Dill asked us to go and give a blessing to a nonmember who asked for one. Unfortunately, he didn't give us a number for her, and we were only told "room 401 at the Good Samaritan." Needless to say, we had no idea where to go. The Good Samaritan society is a large complex of many buildings. Eventually, Elder Dill got back to us and we found it, but we were like an hour late. I gave a fairly good blessing though!
Saturday morning, we went to help out Sister Roth. We dug a fire pit, put up lights, and hacked out a bunch of weeds with a pickaxe and shovel. It was hard work! Then she fed us a lunch of some amazing tuna melts.
Sunday Morning, Elder Hedrick had to go to Stake coordination in Prescott Valley. I had no idea what was going on, but it sounded like they're doing well. That night, we had another lesson with Madorie! Her parents have already changed their mind again. We talked about the tree of life and how it applies to her personally, in preparation for teaching the Gospel of Christ next time.
That's about it for this week. Hope everyone is doing well!
Keep Hauling that water,
Elder Joseph Richardson
