ELDER JOSEPH RICHARDSON - October 13, 2015 - Week 7: Temple Trip

Hello everyone,
This week has been pretty good. I'm still figuring out the bike
situation, and we're planning on checking yard sales and Goodwill for
a working one.

We did quite a bit of service this week. Elder Dill and Amyda recruited us on Wednesday to help them clean a non member's house, and by cleaning we mean wiping down walls and vacuuming their carpet. It was kind of unusual. Later that day, we went and helped Brother
Shelstad in repairing the house he's fixing up. We got to be a "wrecking crew" and smash through a wall! It was pretty cool until I started having a mild allergic reaction to the Sheet rock dust. That wasn't fun. Here's a video of us taking out the wall.

Wednesday night, we went over to the home of the James family to ask about a potential investigator and ended up chatting with their son who just returned from his mission to Japan. It was interesting to compare experiences with him.

On Thursday, we went to help out Debbie. She needed help feeding her horses and poop scooping, as her husband was out of town for a few days. It was actually pretty fun. Later that day, we visited the Prongers again for dinner. Elder B and I played tether ball with their daughter Jessie. She is really good for a 10 year old! I ended up playing one game of it for about 10 minutes because we were so evenly matched.

Brother Pronger also showed us how he set up a trap for a raccoon that kept attacking their dog. It was a pretty cool trap system with two doors that shut from a pressure plate in the middle. I also got on to formally meet their other daughter, Katie, who works a lot, so she'd never been home when we were there.

On Friday, we had a trainer/trainee meeting down in the Valley, then a Zone meeting right after back in Prescott. Elder Dill drove, and we actually made it on time. He's a bit of a speed demon, and it was quite interesting watching him drive.

The big highlight of the week was going on Saturday with one of our recent converts, Clayton Mills, to the Phoenix temple to do baptisms for the dead. Leading the trip was the Doyle family, his fellowshippers. They're a fun and hilarious British family. It's always fun to talk with them because of their interesting and different perspective on the USA. I also asked them and they assured me that Doctor Who really is THAT popular in the UK.

After the temple, the Doyles' took us out to eat at Outback Steakhouse. It was hilarious, because we all got so full! Elder Dill learned that he REALLY likes Huckleberry lemonade and ended up drinking 6 or 7 glasses because our waitress kept bringing him more of it. He also showed his true Idahoan colors by ordering two baked potatoes(one regular and one sweet) and said he would have traded his steak for a few more!

One final fun thing this week was the Gustav family. I don't think I ever talked about them before, but they are a nonmember family who love to have us over from time to time. This time, we came to sing Happy Birthday to Dori Gustav, the mother. We also ended up singing the song we sang at the Musical fireside, and she recorded it! You should be able to see it here: https://youtu.be/-d4jCvp4mpc (She sent me the link, I can't access YouTube :P )

One final thing: the road out to the Gustav's is privately maintained, which essentially means it isn't. It is by far the bumpiest and most ridiculous road I've ever driven. I swear we are going to break something on the car out there someday. ;P

I hope everyone has had a good week!

Keep Hauling that Water,
Elder Joseph Richardson
