Hello everyone!
This week has been great. I'm really enjoying Surprise.
On Tuesday, we went to the local library and set up missionary blogs. Elder Leavitt thought that it'd be really good to write informal posts about the gospel online so people find more positive things when they go searching. I named mine "What's up with Mormons?". Check it out at whatisupwithmormons@blogspot.com.
On Wednesday, we visited with our recent converts Elissa and Jacob, and got their baptismal records all squared away. We also bore testimony of Temple work, and Elissa wants to go and do the work for her family as soon as she can!
Thursday was weekly planning day, so we spent much of the afternoon doing that. Later, we had a lesson with an investigating couple, the Wilfongs. She is ready to be baptized soon, but he doesn't feel ready to commit to a day yet. We also taught a less active who is struggling with not being able to interact with his children due to his divorce. I testified to him that Heavenly Father can and will help him with those trials as he repents and fixes his life.
Friday, we had Zone meeting. The big thing that happened is that we set a goal to contact a lot of people this month. Each companionship has been asked to have at least a small gospel conversation with 125 nonmembers this month. We've already got 16 in the past three days!
On Saturday, I got to go back up to Prescott to attend Tom's baptism service. It was super fun to see a whole bunch of the members I worked with again. That afternoon,we talked to a bunch of people. We had some pretty funny stories come out of it. We dropped by this less actives house, but they didn't answer, so we decided to tract down the street a bit. We found this house that was ridiculously overgrown! There were like 5 short palm trees with leaves creating only a tiny path up to the door. Unfortunately, no one answered the door....
However, across the street, we talked with a pair of teenagers who were mildly interested. Turns out, the girl is a member, the daughter of someone in our ward. Her boyfriend however, was not. It was pretty weird, but we ended up giving him a Restoration pamphlet and he said he'd read it. He was really concerned for our sanity when we told him about missions, and how we wear shirts and ties all the time.
Another weird experience was when we visited this old guy who said he used to be a member. He told us in a very serious tone about the Anoki aliens who created us to be their slaves, and about their leader Aniki who pretends to be the Christian God. Needless to say, we were very weirded out and left without saying much else. That was a fun conversation once we got back to the car. :P
Sunday was tiring, what with church stuff from 7:30am to 4:30pm. Dinner was good though!
That's about it for now, enjoy the pictures.
