ELDER JOSEPH RICHARDSON - November 17, 2015 - Week 12: The Most Interesting Week of My Mission

Hello all, it's been a big week!

Last Monday, after I emailed, we went on a hike to Willow lake in
Prescott. It was pretty fun. We had to trudge through some mud, which
kinda stunk, but then we ended up scaling rocks and skipping stones.
Elder B and Dill had a contest and both got rocks to skip like 10
times! We also found a big tree with a dilapidated treehouse in it,
which was pretty cool. Sister Bennion ended up kicking a giant dead
limb off the tree which essentially exploded when it hit the ground.
That was an adventure!

The next day, we had exchanges. I got to work with Elder Dill in my
area. We had a good day of work and had a lot of fun. I also beat him
at pool multiple times! We also visited Debbie, and she's had a big
miracle in her life! Remember when she got a blessing last week? Well,
she's a ton better now! Her husband was the first to call it a miracle
and he's now taking the lessons!

Working with Elder Dill was awesome because he's so funny. It's also
interesting having an American companion, as you talk about different
things, being from the same culture. Elder B is great, but he kinda
doesn't understand the issues that are going on around the world as
well.

On Wednesday, we did a bunch of service. We found out that the soup
kitchen we volunteer at was closed for Veterans Day, so we helped at
the habitat for humanity store again. We also climbed on top of Sister
Grundvig's house to clear off more pine needles.

That night, we visited with a past investigator named Bernie. She was
once ready to be baptised, but ended up not doing so. She told us
about going to see the BoM Musical recently, and claimed it was "kind
of objectionable, but you leave with a good feeling". Needless to say,
I was confused.

The next night, we had dinner with the Paxton's. She is our primary
president, and has 4 young children. They were all over the place! It
reminded me a lot of home.

After the Paxton's, we visited the Bowen/Elliott household. They sang
silent night with a piano, violin, and guitar accompaniment. We sang a
new song, called Forgiveness and shared a message about forgiveness.

On Friday, we had interviews with President Griffin. He's super nice
and really knows his stuff! He spoke to our district beforehand and
talked about his policy of self governance in the mission. In my
interview, he talked to me about doing things the "Elder Richardson"
way, and that he needed me to be strong in my style to serve the best
I can.

We had some weird car troubles this week. Turns out our battery died
on us, but the church runs things smart and has the car under
warranty, so we went to the dealership and got a new one free. I also
learned that there are now mobile jump starting boxes, and we borrowed
one for the few days before our battery change.

We had an elders quorum party on Saturday, and our investigator Sean
came! He had a good time socialising with the quorum presidency, which
was really good for him.

Last night was insane! Elder B has got me doing a lot of singing now,
as I sing Mary Sweet Mary myself, and we just started doing a version
of "Hallelujah" (the one from Shrek). I even wrote a new verse for
that one! I sang 4 solos last night, so my voice got super tired.

Well, that's mostly all I've got for today. I heard about the
craziness in Paris, and my heart goes out to them. Things are getting
crazy out there.......

Keep hauling that water,
Elder Joseph Richardson
