Hello all,
I think I've messed up on putting out letters to all the right people
each week. If anyone's missed a week, let me know and I can forward
the earlier ones. Also, yes, P-day is Tuesday this week, cuz of
transfers. I'm already done with my first transfer! That's one 17th of
my mission!
Anyway, so here's my weekly report *salutes awkwardly*
After I emailed last week, we had a zone activity. We went to this
gymnastics place and got to just mess around with their equipment,
including two of those foam pits and one of those giant inflatable
race courses like they have at the Vandergriff block party every year.
It was a lot of fun, except for the fact that I kept having a ton of
trouble getting out of the foam pit!
On our way back from that, we went shopping for food, but also stopped
by Goodwill. We found me a bike! It was a tad rusty and old, but we've
fixed it up and it work great! More on that later.
The next day, Tuesday, we had zone conference down in Prescott Valley,
my first one on my mission. It was kind of long, but was really good
and inspiring. President Griffin is really blunt about things, and he
told us not to tell our parents what he said, or else we might freak
y'all out! :P We also had an amazing baked potato lunch provided by
the members and sang the Arizona Phoenix Mission Fight Song, which
was, shall we say, interesting.
On Wednesday, we were on exchanges. I was with Elder Amyda again, this
time in their area. I got a little frustrated because I told Elder
Amyda to lead, but he had no idea where we were going at times and led
us on a wild goose chase searching for a house amidst the main town
square. It turned out okay though..... Sort of. So yeah, that part of
my week wasn't fun....
Back to the bike, we found a good one at Goodwill for $25, and I think
it will do just great. Elder B fixed it up on Thursday, and we went on
a short bike ride. Unfortunately, while we were riding, Elder B went
to fast in the light rain and slid and fell over when he went to turn
around. The right handle bar jabbed him in the right thigh and took
out a chunk of flesh about the width of a dime. It was a little
miracle that some guys in a truck came by about 2 minutes later and
took us over the hill to our home.
We think Elder B also bruised the muscle in his thigh, and he's been
limping the last little while. We went to see a member who's a doctor
and he said it was getting a tad infected, so Elder B is on some
antibiotics for a week or so. Luckily, it coincided with my meds
running low, so we were able to do one Walgreens trip!
After district meeting on Friday, we went to McDonald's for lunch. It
was fun, but I was a little confused when we went to get ice cream
cones and they only had vanilla. I could've sworn every other
McDonald's I've visited has had chocolate and Twist.... Idk, weird
story.
Saturday night, we had dinner with Elder Dill and Elder Amyda.
Unfortunately, they failed to realize that the Stouffers lasagna they
bought takes almost 2 hours to cook! We ended up playing pool and
watching the Joseph Smith Movie while we waited. The lasagna was good
though.
Yesterday was super exciting! Debbie had her baptismal interview! She
gets baptized on Saturday! Yay! :P
A little thing about the missionary culture round here: we have a Texaco gas station right around the corner from our house so we go there often. They have a soda fountain with 32 oz drinks for $1.30, so
we often go there twice a week just for fun. It's funny, because the elders have been going there for so long that they recognize us. One even asked about elder B's last companion!
That's about it, but one request:
Mom, could you email me the sheet music for Mary, Sweet Mary? I want
to see about learning and using it this Christmas. We do a lot of
visits just singing to bring the spirit to homes, and I think it'd be
a good song for that.
Keep Hauling that water,
Elder Joseph Richardson
