Hello everyone, and Happy 2016!
Monday evening we had another lesson with Madorie. She's progressing
very quickly, and is ready to be baptised as soon as possible, aka
when her parents finally give their permission.
Tuesday, we had an appointment with the ward Young Men President,
Brother Bertoch. We shared our new initiative with him, and talked
about Ammon and his brothers. We wanted to take a picture with his
family when they accepted the challenge, but Sister Bertoch vetoed it
because she was already in her pyjamas (they had us come at 8pm) :P
Wednesday was fun because we spent the morning burning things at
Brother Shelstad's house. I got to sit by and watch the fire while he
and Elder Hedrick cut more pieces to burn. Then Sister Shelstad fed us
Carl's Jr hamburgers.
An interesting thing about Arizona is that you have to go through this
whole process just to burn things on your property. It involves
permits, specific days to burn, calling the fire department when you
start and stop, etc. That's why we get called to help burn fairly
often. You want to burn everything you need to in those few hours, or
you'll have to get another permit.
On Thursday, we had a lesson with Sister Larson, the Young Women
President, and her 4 little kids. I was impressed, as their 8 year old
knew the whole story of Ammon by heart and kept telling us what
happened next as we taught about it.
That night, we had to get home by 6pm, so we hung out at home for a
long time. Luckily, the package of U-No bars from Mom and Dad showed
up, so I got to have one.
New Year's Day, we were told to stay home all day. However, we ended
up having a district meeting and went to a restaurant with the
Jennings for dinner, so things still happened.
Oh, I should talk about my love/hate relationship with seafood..... I
had Dungeonous Crab a few weeks ago, and I think it made me sick, but
I had a ton of shrimp at the restaurant and it was awesome! I've like
never had seafood growing up, but they have some good stuff out here!
Saturday, I was on exchanges with Elder Ingham in the YSA ward. It was
cool to see more about how YSA wards differ from normal wards. We did
all sorts of stuff, and I ended up reading stories from the New Era
aloud to entertain us as we drove across the bi-city area like 5
times.
Sunday was pretty fun. Our ward has switched over to 1pm, so it was a
long morning. I got to go with Elder Ingham to the YSA potluck,
because Elders Dill and Hedrick had Stake Coordination meeting. Later,
we met at a members house and had Cake for Elder Hedrick's Birthday.
Well, that's about all for the week!
Keep Hauling that water,
Elder Joseph Richardson
