ELDER JOSEPH RICHARDSON - March 29, 2016 - Week 31: Contacts galore!

Hello everybody!

This week has been crazy long, and I've been busy today with a
district activity, so I'm running late!

This week has been full of contacting! We are well on track to have
contacted 125 people this month! It's been fun to set that goal and
get about 4 contacts a day on top of everything else.

One big highlight this week has been that we had a double baptism!
Scot and Haley Wilfong got baptized this past Saturday! We also used
it as a way to get in to talk to a part member family, as I received
an extra plate of food to take home from the brunch they held
afterwards. I, of course, entirely blanked on the fact that the slice
of ice cream cake they gave me would be sitting in our car for
multiple hours. So, we dropped by a part member family nearby and
asked if I could borrow some fridge space for a while. It was super
awesome, because the husband had canceled our last appointment with
them, but we got to talk to him!

Ewe also had a Ward fondue party on Friday night, which was fun. We
were able to get a bunch of recent converts to it, and they got along
well with everyone. Also on Friday, we did a fun contacting activity
where we got to act as random people on the street to be contacted. I
was handed a small toy dog, and told to be "walking my dog". This
presented a weird problem, so I held it at arms length and bounced it
up and down as I walked, it was super funny.

Also, one of the "Hermanas" got assigned to be fixing her car, but when we came up, she couldn't figure out how to open the hood! :P

To end off, a contacting story:

We tracted into this black lady who started quizzing us on our knowledge of the bible from the minute we said we were missionaries. She keep referring to Christ as "Yoshua", and calling the bible the "Kobayashi Yorek", which apparently means "the Holy Word" in Hebrew. We later learned that she is of a sect that believes in "pure religion" by only reading the scriptures in Hebrew (Despite the fact that the New Testament was originally written in Greek), and taking many things in the bible completely literally. She argued that Christ must be Black, because of Revelation 1:14. (That verse says his feet are as brass. It's Symbolism!) Also, she claimed that slavery in the US was because Satan wanted to persecute the "True Israelites" aka the African Americans, and claimed to not be African American, but a True Israelite! The funny thing was that she was wearing a shirt that said "African American" this whole time. I kinda wanted to ask her tribe and say I'm an Ephraimite, but that would have escalated things. Anyway, so she told us to study up, and "stop following the Father of Lies". So that was a fun time...... Always a great day when people tell you you're deceived.

Hope everyone is doing well. I've always got more stories to tell from the contacting front, so just ask if you want more!

Keep Hauling that Water,
Elder Joseph Richardson
