As the title suggests, this week I have really started feeling like a real missionary.
The first reason for that is that I got a bike this week! One elder left his bike here when he went home, and Elder Dill brought it out to see if I could use it! Unfortunately, I think the reason he left it was because it's in bad repair. We're going to be taking it in to a
bike shop today to see if we can get the brakes fixed. It also has flat tires, and the grips on the handle bars are tearing off.
We've also been doing a lot of service this week. On Tuesday, we checked up on a less active man named Steve, and before we knew it, we were helping him begin a long term project to reprint the exterior of his house! Elder B and I taped and covered the windows, and have started using a spray paint machine to paint the whole house. It's messy work, but it feels great to be working hard.
The next day, we went back out, bringing Elders Dill and Amyda. We worked for two hours and have pretty much finished applying the primer coat. Now we just need to wait a few days, then we can start the real paint.
Thursday night, we had dinner with the Prongers again. We had tacos,
and left a good message, but we accidentally left our phone! The next morning, we came back at 6:45am to find our phone on their porch, wrapped in a plastic bag. Beneath it was a sign with a weird drawing of a man and the words "Good Morning Dummy!" It was pretty funny, and was exactly what we thought Brother Pronger might do. :P
Thursday evening, we visited with Sister Wellington again. We got to talking about friends and Elder B and I ended up showing her pictures of our friends. Elder B was part of a group at his school called "The Brothers". Apparently, they are like the school's informal enforcers. Whenever someone does something wrong, everyone says "we'll call The Brothers on you!" and pretty much everyone will stop their bullying or whatever.
I showed Sister Wellington a picture of "The Crew", my friend/D&D group at BYU.
It was really funny because she immediately asked which one I was planning on marrying. Needless to say, I was really caught off guard!
Friday night, we went with Elders Dill and Amyda to stay with some other elders up in Kirkland. A member couple had invited all of us to watch conference at their house and "eat all their food". We had some mishaps, but finally got there and had a fun time.
I suppose it's about time I talked about General conference. I really liked this one. I especially liked the talks by Elder Uchtdorf and Elder Nelson. It was also cool to see Elder Foster and Elder Montoya speak, because they spoke to our mission just a few weeks ago.
The final cool thing was that we found a new investigator last night! Her name is Brie, and she is really interested in the gospel. She and her inactive member husband are working through some tough things, but they are eager to find joy in the gospel.
This has been a very good week!
Keep Hauling that Water,
Elder Joseph Richardson
P.S. Small update: the bike is a no go. It's going to take like $150 to get
in working order. :( we're going to see if they have anything else Icould use
